This hotel can make it better if they want to

Booked 2 rooms of the same value but 1 room was smaller. Could have been better if they gave us the traverse rooms which was available. The kids room were not open also which kids looked up to.

The hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking the lake. The rooms are large and airy and have a grand bathroom. Plenty of hot water and spacious. There was a problem during our stay (3 nights) with a motorbike at the bottom of the grand drive with attached loud speaker advertising from 8am to 6pm daily. The short and very noisy text was on a continuous loop. The hotel staff were unable to deal with this as the motorbike was not on their land. For a luxury hotel ( and its guests )this noise pollution is a serious problem. The location gives easy access to the lake and old town, watch out though as you cross the road, motorbikes comes from all directions, perhaps the hotel could ask one of the very many staff to help elderly or infirm guests over the road ? This doesn't detract from the overall charm of the hotel or the good intentions from the staff.

A Grand Hotel for Kings and Queens

My wife and I stayed two nights at the hotel. The hotel looked very much like it was when I stayed there as a kid with my parents in early 1970's. I must admit that the decor of this old and grand hotel is still suitable for Kings and Queens nowadays as my wife was in awe. Our lake view room presents us a picturesque scenery right in front of our windows. The view gave us an illusion that we were in Alpine Europe. The breakfast, high tea and dinner were all excellent in food and services. Nevertheless, there were a few silly incidents that reminded us we were still in a developing socialist country. First, when we find out that our room 's central window could not be closed securely, we called the handy man to fix it for us. He brought along a dinner fork instead of a proper screw driver. Hence, it took him a little while to fix the window. Second, we wanted to exchange a USD100 note for Vietnam Dong in the afternoon of a Saturday, the front desk staff initially told us that they ran out of VND. Then, I told him that I would have to go to another 5 Star hotel nearby to exchange it. Then, they told me to wait since they can arrange to bring some VND from a hotel nearby. Lastly there was this 1940's Citron of France parking in front of the hotel's doorsteps. The car was probably restored as an antique car years ago but now, it has been slowly rusting away to be junked. No wonder as I have been confirmed that this grand hotel is now managed by the government instead of Sofitel.

Nice hotel with a good view

the place is the best hotel in town. great view, cozy bar with nice live music, good breakfast buffet. a bit downside are water temperature (up and down by itself), mediocre english and services by staffs, and run-down mattress.

Centrally located to the Dalat market and lake, this hotel had a very colonial feel complete with uniformed porter, maids, and a classic roadster parked up front. Breakfast buffet was excellent and well worth the extra cost. Walking distance to the lake to ride the swan boats. In the morning, be sure to walk to the Da Lat market across the street to take in all the beautiful and fragrant flowers.

Good Location, Nice Hotel

This Hotel is very good location. it is right in the city but very privacy. it has a nice view and very convenience. it is about 100 years old but well maintaining, clean very presented. staff is very friendly and nice. However, some need more training and more staff. We arrived at hotel in the raining evening without any helps as bell boys were not in the front. However, they were supporting us a lots during our stay. Some staff were very helpful some did not know what to do. Breakfast is fine but we had been asked to wait outside as no more table. that is something the manager should think about it.

AC is not working and sew broken smell very bad

AC is not working in room 120 and sew is broken smell very bad in the room 129. Manager is a lair and a professional at all. He told me he fix the AC remotely. The AC is old and not even high tech or modern. How can he fixed it remotely and still not working got three nights. They try to fix it every days but they could get any cool air out.

Disappointed.

The palace is in need of a makeover. Although the hotel itself is in decent shape, the rooms are tired and uncomfortable. The mattress in my room was literally hard as a rock. The hotel is aware but they won't pay the money. The grounds are expansive and well maintained.

A Wonderful Place To Stay in Dalat

We stayed at Dalat Palace hotel mid last December. Both of our rooms were very clean, spacious, and lovely with a beautiful French architecture and interior decor. The hotel also has a well maintained garden landscape with spectacular hill view. I really love the hotel's breakfast restaurant for its fancy but relaxing setting, offering a stunning view of the floral garden, Xuan Huong river, the mountains and even part of the city. We also came to this warm, cozy bar restaurant to enjoy a few drinks with live piano music at night. The hotel is located right in downtown Dalat, just a few minutes walk to Dalat market and Xuan Huong lake. It's also just 6' walk to a big supermarket so it's very convenient to get snacks, drinks or food. It's easy to call taxis as they'll just pick you up right in front of the hotel lobby. Hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. We'd definitely stay here if we come to Dalat next time.

The old building was kind of dirty and smelly. The shower water was terrible. The water temperature changes from cold to very hot and hot to cold and I couldn't adjusted so they gave me a different room after I threatened to leave the hotel. The new building is beautiful but the water pressure is very low. It takes forever to take a shower because the water is dripping instead of flowing.

Journey to the past

Nice hotel for an experience of its past grandeur but will not stay again as we expected a higher standard. Hotel has no lifts for seniors. We happened to visit during Tet holidays which was a mistake. It was overcrowded. Rooms are decent but not excellent. The first room we had did not have a shower, only a long bath which was quite dangerous for seniors. Toiletries was not replenished every day. Rooms also had no air-con. We opened the windows and mosquitoes came in the room. We managed to get a change in the rooms only after most of the guests had gone home. I guess for a one time stay it was ok. The hotel was beautifully furnished with fresh lilies everywhere and French decor. The view overlooking the terrace was also very nice.

Beautiful heritage hotel

This hotel is perfect for people who love heritage luxury royal style. It s a very old hotel was build in 1922. It has been maintained very well, kept in as much as everything being used there. Restaurant is beautiful but food is normal. Mini pub with live music is a plus. Karaoke rooms is awesome. Has the best view of Ho Xuan Huong lake.

Beautifull externally but terrible rooms

We stayed for 2 nights within a month long trip in which we stayed in 5 stars hotels. This hotel should be 3 stars at best it was the worse hotel we stayed in. Beautiful impressive grounds and reception area. Amazingly decorated for christmas and the building is stunning. This are the good points, bad points outweigh the good ones; bedroom was small and cramped very old (not antic) cheap furniture , very small old bath, no proper shower, leaked when we used it and ok if you are 1.5 meters tall.

Still mostly grand hotel

Room is spacious, and ours had a delightful view of the lake. Staff were professional if slightly reserved. It is an old and once grand hotel that, for me, still has charm. More understated than opulent, I became more appreciative of it over the 3 days stay.

Old classic look but it needs lots of improvement

Pro: We arrived at Da Lat when I was raining on and off. From the outside, the hotel has a classic colonial look and feel... Cuz it was built in 1920's... I was very impressed with the lobby and the appearance of the hotel... The lobby's fire place and furniture were very unique ... Very cool... Hotel staffs and uniforms were pretty awesome and cool as the same time... I felt like I was in a 1920's Classic movies.... Staffs were very friendly and helpful... They tried extremely hard to please guests and very polite... The breakfast was included with our stay... The food was okay... But again the staffs were extremely friendly and caring. Con: We checked into the room on the 3rd flood... The hallway was not well lit... And because of the old decor... It looked kinda creepy and scary... The room had the view of the lake in front of the hotel... Everything in the hotel was from 1920's decors... Bed was comfortable... The decors were very cool with the classic feel... However, all the cool things about the hotel ended there... Issues: The water from the shower came out cold for a few seconds and got really hot a few seconds later... The shower's curtain did not work correctly, which allowed the water to escape all over the floor... We called but they were unable to fix the water issue.. And moved us to another room the next night... The cold and hot water issue was solved but the flashing water onto the floor was still the same... I would not recommend this hotel

Very nice view, beautiful structure! But inside needs work! Bathroom leaks! When you shower water leaked out of tub and flooded the floor! No air conditioning! Not worth the money! Hotel staff was nice but nothing they can do to fix that.

Not a 5 star resort. Maybe it was a long time ago, but no updating has been done. Hot water was barely warm. No AC. Very little light. We found a dead cockroach in our room. Delicious crossiants at breakfast is why we rated it so high.

I was in Vietnam for business. A couple of my friends encouraged me to take the flight to Dalat solely for staying at the Dalat Palace. I am SO glad that I did. What an incredible historic hotel! High tea in the afternoon with my son on the porch overlooking the lake was a memory we'll both cherish!

The breakfast was terrible. We had stayed at this hotel many times in the past. This time the hotel quality had gone down drastically, especially the hotel food. We would not stay nor recommend this hotel.

The 105 steps

Dalat is an attractive city and the hotel is a major landmark sited on the city's main lake. Yes there is the constant problem as in all of Vietnam, of crossing the road. Everithing about the hotel is superior. Our airport transfer worked well and thereafter the service was faultless. We had booked a lake view balcony room which was large and well appointed. Colonial style with clawfoot bath and old style plumbing. Word of caution here: the edge of the bath near the wall is not sealed so untill we got used to the hand held shower fitting a small flood ensued. Housekeeper called - "no problem" everything cleaned up in a trice. Breakfast on the terrace each day was very good.

Good location, not really 5 stars though

The hotel is a grand old dame but needs some mod cons Service is slow at times, 30 minutes for poached eggs, asking room service to collect laundry took so long we ended up taking it to reception.

Dalat Palace January 2015- the way life used to be

The Dalat Palace is a unique experience showcasing old colonial style and makes a visit to Dalat memorable , expect the usual deferential five star treatment from staff , helpful if not as friendly as boutique hotels in Vietnam . Overall a great place to stay , though for the prices charged breakfast has room for improvement
